Facing elimination, the Stamford ladies walked away from the final district game win with a huge win over the Roscoe Plowgirls 74-71 in double overtime. The girls had contributions from the entire roster to overcome a Roscoe team that would not go away. The Lady Bulldogs led most of the game, but in a frenzied comeback, the Plowgirls sent the game into overtime. With 2.1 seconds left in the first OT, Bre Ratheal dropped two pressure packed free throws to tie the game and send it into an added overtime period. In the next four minutes, the Stamford ladies worked their way to a six point advantage with time winding down. The Plowgirls hit a three pointer with under 4 seconds on the clock, but time expired on the ensuing inbound pass to seal the victory. Taylor Beeson, Bre, and Brooklyn Woodard were all in double figures. Kaitlin Kovar and Morgan Butler also lit up the score board with some big points.
The win left the ladies with a 6-6 district mark and in a tie for the remaining playoff spot with Hawley which dropped their game against Anson. The two teams will play in Merkel on Friday to determine who advances to the bi-district round of the UIL playoffs. Tip off is scheduled for 8:00. Haskell will represent our district as the number one team and Hamlin along with Anson claimed the number two and three spots respectively.
