Both Albany and our ladies finished the district season with 9-5 records. To break the tie, they traveled to ACU in Abilene for their third match up of the season. Albany won the first game and the Lady Dawgs took the second game.
Jasalynn Applin worked out of a slow start to limit the Lady Lions to one run in the first facing seven batters and throwing 42 pitches. The Stamford ladies scored four on a walk to Marissa Hernandez, double from Taylor Beeson, followed by another double from Raquel Pachicano, single by Alex Macias and double by Jasalynn to take a 4-1 lead. Jasalynn settled down to hold the Lady Lions scoreless for the next three innings while the Lady Dawgs added an unearned run in the second and three in the fourth to take 8-1 lead into the fifth. The Lady Lions kept chipping away and tightened the score with a single run in the fifth and two more in the sixth. Trailing 8-4 the Lady Dawgs suffered some miscommunication on a pop up and found themselves in a full blown mess. With bases loaded and two outs, Chesney Lefevre just missed hauling in a long fly ball and hustled the throw back in to hold the runner at third with what would have been the tying run. Jasalynn coaxed a foul ball pop up from the final batter of the game, on her 166th pitch of the game, as Raquel ran it down behind third and down the line to seal the victory.
The Lady Dawgs (19-9) will travel to Graford to take on the Lady Pirates (16-8-1) from Petrolia Thursday, April 28th with a 6:00 start time. If you see one of the Lady Dawgs this week congratulate them on a good win and give them your support in their Bi-District matchup against a formidable opponent.
